The Crying Boy is a painting by artist Bruno Amadio that was mass produced in the early 1950’s. There were also many painted variations of crying children. In 1985 the british tabloid The Sun released a story about a firefighter in Yorkshire had found many of these paintings in different houses completely untouched by the flames.

The superstition grew and none of his fellow firefighters would even consider owning one of the paintings. After the original article The Sun and a bunch of other tabloids from the area wrote articles about houses that had burned down with the painting inside and by the end of the year they had received so many of the paintings from readers that they ended up having a huge bonfire with all of them.

Since then a lot of people have looked into why the painting would survive a fire and although the prints were done on fire resistant paper that doesn’t quite answer all of the questions people have regarding this arsonist artwork.
